A racing driver is born
Guy Ligier began his driving career at the controls of a motorbike, winning the title of French Champion in 1959 and 1960.
Guy Ligier, France’s only Formula 1 driver
In 1966, Guy Ligier became France’s only Formula 1 driver, battling with the most famous names of the time for the Grand Prix titles.
Creation of the Formula 2 team
In 1968, with his lifelong friend Jo Schlesser he created a Formula 2 team with themselves as drivers. 1970 was the year of the first appearance of the Ligier JS 1 in the 24 hours at Le Mans driven by Guy Ligier and Jean-Claude Andruet.
Win in the Tour de France automobile
In 1974, the Ligier JS2 won the Tour de France automobile.
Agreement with Citroën for the assembly of SM Maserati
The engine of the Citroen SM Maserati and the one of the Ligier JS2 are produced in factories Ligier Vichy.
Ligier and the Formula 1
Its first Formula 1 appearance in 1976 in Brazil marked the beginning of a 20 year adventure with 326 Grand Prix entries, 50 podium placings, 9 victories, a second place in the 1980 World constructors' championship, and finishing with Olivier Panis who won the Monaco Grand Prix on 19 May 1996. A story of human and technical endeavour which would see the team build more than 20 Formula 1 cars.
Ligier launches in cars without license
In parallel, Automobiles Ligier was to capitalise on all this sporting experience in its development of innovative ranges of permit-free vehicles built using the advanced construction techniques.

On May 19th , 1996 at the steering wheel of his JS 41, Olivier Panis won the most prestigious victory, which, from pilot to manufacturers, delights the world of F1: the Monaco Grand Prix.
