Creation of the Formula 2 team

In 1968, with his lifelong friend Jo Schlesser he created a Formula 2 team with themselves as drivers. 1970 was the year of the first appearance of the Ligier JS 1 in the 24 hours at Le Mans driven by Guy Ligier and Jean-Claude Andruet.

Agreement with Citroën for the assembly of SM Maserati

Ligier and the Formula 1

Its first Formula 1 appearance in 1976 in Brazil marked the beginning of a 20 year adventure with 326 Grand Prix entries, 50 podium placings, 9 victories, a second place in the 1980 World constructors' championship, and finishing with Olivier Panis who won the Monaco Grand Prix on 19 May 1996. A story of human and technical endeavour which would see the team build more than 20 Formula 1 cars.
